Guided Fly Fishing Trips
Brookside Guides offers Half-Day, Full-Day, and Float trips for beginner, intermediate, and advanced fly-fishers!
Half-Day Guided Fly Fishing or Instruction
Our half-day trip is great if you don’t have much time and want to sample the finest trout fishing in the Southern Appalachians.
Half-day trips take place on rivers and streams convenient to our home base in Asheville, NC. Those rivers may include the Davidson (on the “Trout Unlimited Top 100 Trout Rivers” list), North Mills River, Curtis Creek, Green River or S. Toe. All of these rivers and streams contain abundant numbers of Rainbow, Brown, and Brook Trout of all sizes.
Our mountain rivers and streams are shaded by beautiful rhododendron and mountain laurel which guarantees you’ll be cool even on the hottest days of summer! In summer we often recommend Half day trips as fly fishing is always better during the cooler times of day.
Half-Day Fly Fishing Trip
- $225.00 for one angler.
- $290.00 for two anglers.
- $380.00 for three anglers.
All prices include waders and boots and snacks. Please note that the gratuity for your guide is not included in the price. Your guide will call, email or text you with a meeting place on the day prior to your trip. Most good trout streams are within 30-50 minutes of the Asheville area.
Full Day Trip
A full day trip gives you plenty of time to hike into more remote areas on rivers where the trout rarely see artificial flies. You’ll enjoy spectacular scenery and have a chance to catch lots of fish.
Our full day wade trips are on the spectacular mountain streams and rivers in western NC that are packed with stocked and native trout. On any of the streams we fish, you can catch some Rainbow, Brown and the much sought after Brook (locally referred to as Speck) Trout. The further we travel into the remote areas of the streams, the more we increase your chances of catching native trout. Three of the rivers we fish during full day trips are on the “Trout Unlimited Top 100 Trout Rivers” list.
The full day trip can be customized to suit the current hatch and water conditions. Sometimes the best hatch is right at dusk, other times it may be at Dawn. We are unique in our flexibility to have you on the river at the best possible time for productive “catching”.
The western NC scenery is extraordinary! The streams are surrounded by beautiful mountains, rhododendron bushes, dogwood and mountain laurel. Most parts of the streams are shaded by hemlocks and assorted trees, therefore, even during the hottest months of the year the temperatures remain comfortable.
Thanks to our mild climate we can fish year round. During the winter months, we often fish the whole day without seeing another human.. adding a little peace and tranquility to the day’s experience.
And in December we are often delighted by the warm midday sun bringing out a small hatch of Blue Winged Olives & Midges… something that almost NEVER occurs up North!
All prices include waders, boots and fly rod and streamside lunch.

- $390.00 for two anglers.
- $480.00 for three anglers.

Float Trips
Our float trips are for trout on the S. Holston and Watauga Rivers in E. Tennessee, the Tuckaseegee River and in summer we offer trips for smallmouth bass on the French Broad River. Floating these rivers allows you to cover more productive water, and water that is not accessible to wade fishing. During these trips you may have opportunities to get out of the raft and wade fish “back cuts” and special riffle areas that are known to hold better than average fish.
Fly fishing float trips are a great option for beginners as well as advanced fly fishers.
