FAQs
You have questions, we have answers.
What should I bring?
- Polarized Glasses: If you do not already own a pair – BUY A PAIR! It makes all the difference in the world. A cheap pair will work just fine!
- Change of Clothes: Just in case your current clothing gets wet (happens rarely).
- Extra Thick Socks – Wool or PolyPro – NOT cotton. Your feet are going to be in the water (safe and dry in waders and boots-but the water can be chilly). Keep them toasty with warmer socks and you will be more comfortable.
- Waterproof Camera: Nothing adds credibility to your stories more than having a photo to support it. If not, you’re left with tall fish tales. If you’re bringing your cell, be sure to put it in a well-sealed baggy or plastic case.
- Dark Clothing- You want to blend in with what the fish see above the water. Dark Greens, Browns, Camo, etc. You do not want to spook the fish. Loose warm pants (yoga pants, etc) are best to wear under your waders. Jeans are definitely not recommended.
- Sunscreen/Insect repellent – Highly recommend environmentally friendly! Let’s not poison the fish!
- Rain Jacket/Layers – For obvious reasons – to make you as comfortable as possible.
- Hat – A cap with a brim works best.
- Cash – to tip your wonderful, professional, and talented Guides! (it’s customary to tip your guide in the fly fishing world).
Is a fishing license required?
Yes, you must have a fishing license to fly fish in WNC. Wait to discuss with your guide before purchasing a license as some water requires a different license. Get a License.
